Welcome to Social Unity Project Headquarters

We are an anti-racist educational organization dedicated to social unity and community well-being.

Our mission is to work towards the eradication of racism in it’s many forms through promotion of education and involvement in our communities and beyond. We are a group of individuals coming together to support BIPOC in rising out from under the oppression that has plagued this country since it’s inception. It’s hard work, but we the people, can do hard things together and come out triumphant.

A Letter from Our Executive Director:

Dear Friends,

Thank you for joining us on this mission to spread anti-racist education and promote unity in this nation and beyond. 2020 showed us a lot about what it means to be an American.

We have seen that there are huge divides and that huge strides need to be made to bring the nation together as a truly United State. Social Unity Project was created to make a difference in this problem we face. We recognize the extent to which ignorance has fueled this unrest and the ways in which white supremacy has caused many of the issues we face today.

This year we are beginning to offer some programs aimed at spreading knowledge and understanding. In January we will begin our reading circle discussing My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending out Hearts and Bodies by Resmaa Menakem. The relationships between civilians and law enforcement officers, law enforcement officers and white supremacy, and white supremacy and BIPOC, and the connections between those relationships needs to be deeply explored in order to move past this divide and towards compassion, acceptance, and celebration of our differences and similarities.

Social Unity Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to the work of anti-racism, social justice, and racial equality with a trauma-informed approach. Our C.O.O. Xana Cook-Milligan, a white psychotherapist, with a biracial daughter, is passionate about creating a world in which her daughter can be truly safe to be herself. As a WOC, I know that growing up in a white-dominated society has such unique challenges and if I had had an organization or someone to talk to, it would have had such a positive impact on my life. S.U.P. was created to be a beacon of light in this darkness that many of us are working diligently to find our way out of.

A few project highlights include:

● Hosting weekly meetings for members to discuss events, speak of experience and learn about the efforts being made to further this work

● Developing a series of conversations designed to bridge the gap between LEO and the public

● Partnering with other community-based organizations to support work in the area of civil rights and justice.

● Development of a podcast dedicated to amplifying the voices of BIPOC and allies in this work.

● Creation of a newsletter publication to be distributed globally.

Our long-term goal is to create community spaces that are multiculturally designed and that allow people to be in a safe, and also brave, space during these times for growth and transformation. A place where people can learn, where people can express themselves and share their cultures with their community.

Thank you for wholeheartedly being a part of the Social Unity Project. We are looking forward to much more in 2021!

Sincerely,

Nicole Yarbrough
